Today’s shop time consisted of making a kit knife using Purple Heart as the handle. I cut the scales on the bandsaw, glued everything together using CA glue, carved out the profile of the knife handle on each side, and sanded. I went through the grits up to 220 and wiped it down with denatured alcohol. Wiping down the project after sanding and before finishing is helpful in remove the small dust particles you couldn’t normally see. After cleaning it up, I applied 3 coats of spray lacquer, being sure to sand and buff between coats. This is an excellent project that is not super time-consuming; and is a project I’ve been needing to finish as I had a buyer already lined up and needed to “fulfill the order”.
